What Does the Blood of Christ Do?

The blood of Jesus Christ is a central theme of the Christian faith and the Gospel. During the Lord’s Supper, we remember Christ’s sacrifice, but what exactly does His blood mean for us? What change does it bring to our relationship with God?

In this sermon, we will turn to Hebrews, chapter 9, and see how Christ’s sacrifice became the ultimate fulfillment of what the Old Testament sacrifices pointed to.

📖 In this sermon, we will talk about:

• Why the Old Testament sacrificial system was necessary and what it pointed to

• How Christ became the perfect and final sacrifice for sin

• Why His sacrifice is sufficient once and for all

• How the blood of Christ cleanses our conscience

• How through Christ we can draw near to God

• What Jesus’ sacrifice means for our everyday life and faith

Three Truths About the Blood of Christ:

1️⃣ One sacrifice is sufficient forever.

Christ did not offer Himself as a sacrifice many times. His sacrifice is perfect, complete, and sufficient for salvation.

2️⃣ His blood cleanses the conscience.

Christ does not simply change our position before God — He cleanses us from guilt and gives us freedom to serve the living God.

3️⃣ His blood brings us near to God.

What was impossible because of sin has become possible through Christ. His sacrifice opens the way for us into God’s presence.

The cross is not simply a symbol of Christianity. It is the place where Christ gave Himself for us. His blood speaks of forgiveness, cleansing, reconciliation, and access to God.

📖 Hebrews 9

Christ offered one perfect sacrifice — and that sacrifice is sufficient forever.
