Waiting on the Promise

This sermon is the introduction to a new sermon series in the Book of Acts titled

“The Church Christ Builds.”

Acts is the continuation of the Gospel of Luke — the story of how the risen and ascended Christ builds His church through the Holy Spirit, spreading the gospel from a small group of disciples in Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.

🔹 Three main ideas:

1. The foundation of the church

The church is built on the finished work of Christ — His suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension.

Salvation is received, not earned.

The church is a redeemed people, not a self-improvement project.

2. The power of the church

The church depends entirely on the Holy Spirit.

Without the Spirit, ministry leads either to burnout or to false results.

3. The mission of the church

The church lives on mission — witnessing locally, regionally, cross-culturally, and globally.

Waiting for Christ’s return means faithful obedience, not passive watching.
