Welcome church!

Discipling Your Family

Ecclesiastes 5:1 "Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil.”

1.Responsibility Of A Family Leader

God has placed a man to lead a family. The responsibility falls on the man from the very beginning.

Genesis 18:19 “For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”

Are you taking the responsibility of your family and brining them closer to God?

Deuteronomy 6

Every father/ husband has the responsibility to teach your family to fear God.
It’s not the responsibility of senior pastor, youth pastor, Sunday school teachers etc. to pass down the faith from you to your kids.

Leading your family consists of 2 components:

1. Teaching Gods commandments to your children.
2. Diligently keeping God’s commandments yourself.

If you do these two things then your family will have the fear of God. Every parent, every father needs to practice discipleship.

2.Defining Discipleship

A disciple needs to be like his teacher.

Luke 6:40 “ A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher”.

Your pastor is not in the position to be your children disciple.

3.How To Do Discipling By Learning From Jesus

1. Teaching God’s commandments
2. Diligently keeping God’s commandments yourself.
3. We will make mistakes but Jesus doesn’t give up on us.
4. Make time for discipleship in your life!

Deuteronomy 6: 7 “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

The commandments of God needs to be on your lips every single part of the day. The only time it will come out of you is if you fill yourself with it in the first place.

If you’re not going to be a good follower of the teacher. Then you will not be a good rabbi to the people that are following you.

Discipling is following the footsteps of your master.

If we follow the footsteps of the teacher then we will make disciple’s in our family. We need to start discipleship within our families than work our way out. The way to be a good disciple is learning from Jesus, and the word of God. We need to filled with Jesus.

Isaiah 50:4-5 “The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary.Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear
to hear as those who are taught. 5 The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward.

Are you filled with the word of God? How often do you read the word of God?

The answer of that will show if you’re a true disciple.

The only thing you need is having commitment and desire.

You need to soak yourself in the word of God and it will flow from you. It’s a continuous journey.

Deuteronomy 6: 17 “You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.”

Kids will compare what we say vs. what we do. How we serve God. We need to model our faith. Our faith needs to only be on our lips but also in our actions.

Jesus wants us to continue on following Him. He wants you to be like Him. We need to correct people with love.
