Be Ready for God's Calling
What is God's calling in my life? What is your will? How to respond to God's calling in your life. We have the same calling but the type of form is different.
The Call Of Elisha: 1 King 19: 19-21
"19 So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21 And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him."
We need to remove the barrier in order to fully understand the story completely.
There are 4 examples we can take away.
1. Be faithful wherever you are already. You have to be faithful with whatever God entrusted you with.
That means you're using the time & situation to what God has given you. Are you using your gift that God has given you in the church? Are we faithful to what & where He placed us? Or are you waiting for a sign, a burning bush?
Colossians 3:23-24
"23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."
Remember you are serving the Lord. As you're waiting for clarity, direction etc, do everything faithfully. If you are faithful God opens doors to the next step/calling. Are we being faithful to whatever God has trusted in us?
2. Be a disciple & disciple others.
Elisha was a servant & disciple for Elijah for about 10 years. Elisha knew that he was going to be serving for a while and he committed.
2 Timothy 2:1-2 A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus
"2 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men,[a] who will be able to teach others also."
We're able to teach others. That's your discipleship model, so that we can take it & teach others, and they teach others. Discipleship can take many different forms. It won't always be easy. It will be rewarding even if it's difficult. Who is your Elijah? Who are you getting you advice & mentorship?Be faithful.
3. Be ready to give/sacrifice
Elisha had zero doubt that it was God's calling and was ready to give up all. He remembered and he was committed. He was willing to give up his wealth.
4. Serve humbly.
Most of what God wants us to know is already written in the Bible. We do it because it brings God the glory, not about the person glory.
